A stalwart group of MVRC members came
out to the field on January 1st, 2012 to enjoy the
camaraderie, some goodies, and the cold, windy day. Thanks
to Sue and Marilyn for the treats, and Brian for the heat,
it was possible to make the overcast and somewhat dreary
first day of the year memorable. A one inch frozen, crusty
snow made the runway marginal for taking off without skis
but with Gary holding Don’s Kaos in place during a max
power engine runup, the takeoff roll gathered momentum and
finally broke free of the resisting crunchy surface. Once
airborne the Kaos performed well in the 20 degree
atmosphere and fought the buffeting 20 to 30 mph
northwesterly winds. The day was definitely one in which
to maintain a little altitude as low passes and landing
approaches were a little squirrely in the wind. All ended
well however, with a couple of flights honoring the New
Year with the hope of better days to come.
