MVRC Spring Fun-Fly Report
On Sunday afternoon
May 23rd many of the MVRC flyers and guests
gathered for the spring fun-fly events. With grilled hot dogs
and
trimmings fortifying
the contestants the flying began with the bomb (egg) drop. Don
L. set the bar pretty high by getting a 3 pointer and a bullseye for 5
points to win this event, closely followed by John H. and John B.
Don R. had to scratch due to equipment failure, an untested bomb bay
requiring further development.
The poker hand contest
had many thrills due to fairly gusty winds and a lot of risky
maneuvering that resulted in a few engine kills but no disasters.
Scores were a little lower overall than we usually experience but most
of the contestants flew fairly consistently and safely.
The timed touch and go
event saw all kinds of thrills and near disasters but only one
resulted in significant damage. Don L had his engine remove itself
from his plane during a hard touch that resulted in no go. The
aircraft overall survived real well short of its engine.
Two minute speed limbo
was the most thrilling series with a lot of good skillful flying and
avoidance of ground and poles for the most part. The wind by this
time was fairly straight out of the south and not too gusty giving the
flyers the best possible conditions other than dead calm. Logan N.,
John B., and Don L. in particular showed us smooth repetitive flying
resulting in high scores
The overall winners in
Expert Class for the day were: Logan N., John B., and Don L., First,
second, and third place respectively. Also in Standard Class the
rankings were: Dan D., Patrick S., and Jerry S. who also flew in
Expert Class in some combined events.
A good day for all
participants and fans and Thanks to Logan for being Contest Director
his first time, Judges Brian B., Pete S., and other volunteers who
helped make everything happen. Just
