Spring Cleanup:

Phase I - Hey Members,

We are having our spring clean up on this saturday the 14th at 9:00. We will be taking the plastic off the shelter and will be removing the north-south runway tarp so the excavator can level out the field. We NEED all members to attend so we can get it up and out of the way quick. I'm guessing there is 5000-7000 staples in the tarp so we need all the help we can get. After they level it we will schedule another day to lay it back down, Im thinking sunday the 22nd. That week you will have to fly off the grass strip. We will also clean up any other trash that has made its way to our flying sight. Bring a pliers to pull staples, if you have a truck we might also haul some of the trees that we cut down last year to the back of the property.

Phase II - Volunteer Alert!

Phase I has been completed on May 14th.  The runway fabric and staples have been removed and the plastic has been removed from around the shelter.  Many small saplings have also been cut down to prevent low altitude obstructions.  A large group made short work of the tasks while Mother Nature provided rain to ensure we will have nice green grass this Summer.  The contractor hired to level the runway will be here this coming week and by week's end we should have a level strip to fly from.  This is probably the most important upgrade needed to make our field more appealing to new and old members alike, and it adds to the addition of the chain link fence and PVC pilot's stations.

So, this coming Saturday, May 21, we will gather again to install the new runway covering.  New cloth and staples will be provided.  We need every person who can help to assist with this effort.  Tools that would be helpful are:

  • Rubber mallets for staple installation

  • Knee pads for the crew who will work on the stapling

  • Gloves

  • Garden rakes and shovels for dressing the sides of the runway

  • Pry bars for any staples that need to be reset

  • Large shears for possible fabric trimming

  • Small tractor with a 10 cu ft cart, or larger, to move fabric into position

  • Music:  "Workin' on the chain gang" would be appropriate  :-)

Come one, come all, to contribute to our field improvement efforts.  A great Summer of flying is ahead!

July

On Monday July 11 the MARCEE, Electric flying group, will be using our field from late afternoon to sunset. They will be having there meeting at 7:00 pm for about 30 minutes.  Field will be closed to electric flying only, club members are encouraged to come out and watch or if you have a electric you may fly.

On Saturday July 16 MVRC will be hosting a North Central Pylon League Race. This is a Quickie 500 plane with a OS 46 AX engine.  The field will be closed from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. then open after the race.  We do need some help watching the pylons. You are 300 ft off the course and watch if planes go around the pylon. Planes have a color stripe for identification. There will be free brats and beer to those that help. Racing will start at 10:30.
